Why Does the Course Flood So Easily?
Many members often ask why our courses flood after even a moderate rainfall. The answer goes back to the original design of the community.
If you look around, you’ll notice that all the homes and surrounding streets sit at a higher elevation than the golf courses. This was done intentionally by the developers. During rain events, water from the entire community drains down into the golf courses’ catch basins. This design ensures that homes and streets remain protected from flooding, but unfortunately it means the golf courses take on runoff from far more than just the courses themselves.
As a result, it doesn’t take much rain for the courses to flood. In fact, just a half-inch of rainfall is often enough to force course closures due to the heavy runoff. Yesterday’s nearly two inches far exceeded that threshold. While we were able to open this morning, the extra rainfall we had this morning put it over the edge again.
