The Story
Westbrook Village Golf Club (WBVGC) has a rich history of community and support since its establishment in 1994. Both courses were originally built by Universal Development and Construction (UDC), with the Lakes course opening in 1983 and the Vistas in 1990. As the final homes were being built by UDC, they sought companies to purchase and operate the courses individually. In September 1994, UDC accepted an offer for the purchase of the Lakes course, on the condition that the homeowners did not purchase it. However, a group of savvy members and homeowners stepped in and requested to present a proposal for the purchase of both the Lakes and Vistas courses by the club members. Initially, UDC was hesitant about the idea, but after reviewing the proposal and business plan put forth by the members and homeowners, an acquisition price and guidelines were agreed upon on October 27th, 1994.
The members then had the task of procuring a set membership fee from 1000 members by December 15th. In a remarkable display of community spirit and enthusiasm, the committee achieved their goal, selling the 1000th membership just days after it was set, on November 18th. Final papers were signed on November 23rd, and the Westbrook Village Golf Club began operation on Thanksgiving Day, November 24th, 1994.
Community and camaraderie are the pillars of the Westbrook Village Golf Club. Many of the original purchasing members, including Les Wilson, board president during the acquisition and WBVGC member #0001, are still affiliated with the club today. Wilson has remarked, “When the pressures became greatest and volunteers were needed, literally 100 or more residents responded. Thousands of hours were given to make this effort a success. It would be improper to single out any individual as so many gave their time and efforts. The golf course purchase became a group and community effort.”

Wildlife
Westbrook Village is located in a bustling city, yet the community is blessed with an abundance of wildlife that thrives in the arid desert landscape. Our residents have become accustomed to the presence of native coyote packs and the many predator hawks and owls that prey on the cottontail rabbits that can be found throughout the golf course. On occasion, we have even had the pleasure of hosting visiting javelina and fox, providing our residents with a glimpse of the area's natural beauty.
As a responsible community, we take great care in ensuring the safety of our residents and the wildlife that calls Westbrook Village home. Our staff regularly monitors the course and surrounding areas to ensure that our furry and feathered friends are not adversely impacted by the community's activities. We believe that coexisting with wildlife is an essential part of living in harmony with nature, and we encourage our residents to respect and appreciate the wildlife that surrounds us.
