The Story
Westbrook Village Golf Club (WBVGC) has had a story of community and support since its beginning in 1994. Both the courses were originally built by development company, Universal Development and Construction (UDC), with the Lakes course opening in 1983 and the Vistas in 1990. As the final homes were being built by UDC, they began to look for companies to purchase and operate the courses individually. In September of 1994, UDC had accepted an offer for purchase of the Lakes course, provided the homeowners did not purchase the course. This is when a group of astute members and homeowners stepped in and requested to have a presentation for purchase of both the Lakes and Vistas courses by the members of the club. At first, UDC was reluctant to the notion, but as the members and homeowners put forth their proposal and business plan. After review, an acquisition price and its guidelines were set on October 27th, 1994. The group of members now had the task of procuring a set membership fee from 1000 members by December 15th. In true Westbrook fashion the committee had the 1000th membership sold on November 18th, merely days after the goal was set! Final papers were signed on November 23rd and the Westbrook Village Golf Club began operation on Thanksgiving Day, November 24th, 1994.
Community and camaraderie are two things that stand out with Westbrook Village. Many of the original purchasing members are still members today, including Les Wilson, board president during the acquisition and WBVGC member #0001. In his own words, “When the pressures became greatest and volunteers were needed, literally 100 or more residents responded. Thousands of hours were given to make this effort a success. It would be improper to single out any individual as so many gave their time and efforts. The golf course purchase became a group and community effort.”

Wildlife
Westbrook Village may be in the big city, but we still have our fair share of wildlife seeking the cool grass from the dry desert heat. You will become accustomed to our native coyote packs. As well as our many predator hawks and owls that prey on the many cottontail rabbits throughout the course. We have even been known from time to time to have a few visiting javelina and fox.
