We had two perfect days for the 2022 Club Championship. It did get a little hot during today’s round 2, but we all know there is more heat to come ?

The 2022 Men’s Club Championship had three past champions neck and neck the entire round. Through 14 holes we had a three-way tie Ray Melton (2015, 2016, 2018), Mark Sleeper (2019) and Domenic Pullano (2022) were all tied at +3. Ray birdied hole 14 to tie all three up. Then both Ray and Mark birdied hole 15 to take a 1 shot lead over Domenic. Next on hole 16, Mark made a bogey and now both Mark and Domenic trailed Ray by 1 shot going into the two most difficult holes on the course (17 & 18). Ray was able to make a par on 17 and both Mark and Domenic made bogeys to give Ray a 2 shot lead going into the final hole. Both Domenic and Mark hit their 3rd shots on the Par 5 to about 15 feet and Ray missed the green short and left. Ray was first to play and putted from off the green to 4 feet past the hole, definitely no gimmie. Mark was next up and knew that he had a chance to put some serious pressure on Ray and he drained his 15-foot birdie putt with a fist pump to get within 1 shot, while Ray still had some work left for his par. Next, Dominic had a tough put down to the front cut hole to also apply pressure but just missed. Ray had the final 4-foot putt to seal his victory and hit is right in the center to cap off his great round of even par 71 (74 – 71 (145). Quite an eventful finish! Ray will get his first invitation to the newly created PGA Club Championship. Congratulations Ray on becoming a WBVGC Club Champion for the 4^th time (2015, 2016, 2018, 2022).

Our 2022 Men’s Net Club Championship had a very similar close battle between David Bellitt, Brad Barlow and Gary Davis. All three players went back and forth for most of the back 9 with Gary and Brad trailing by 1 going into the last hole a few groups ahead of David. Both Gary and Brad made net birdies on hole 18 to go in a two-way tie, 1 ahead of David while David had three holes remaining. Dave answered with a net birdie on 16 and a solid par on 17. Dave was in a three-way tie with Brad and Gary while he played 18. He hit is 3^rd shot just off the green on the right side of the par 5 18^th and hit his putt from the fringe about 4 feet short. He now had a 4-foot right to left breaker for the title of 2022 Net Club Champion. He hit his put and it started to break and it just caught enough of the left lift and curled its way into the hole! Another clutch put to clinch the title with net scores of 72 – 66 (138).

Our 2021 Ladies Club Champ, Robin Krapfl, had an 11 shot lead coming into round 2 and was able to expand that lead by another six shot shooting a 75 in round 2 (72, 75 | 147) and became our 2022 Club Champion (2^nd year in a row). This win will again send Robin to the PGA National Club Championship. This past December, Robin represented Westbrook Village Golf Club competing against 2021 club champions from around the country in Palm Springs, CA and finished T8^th in the tough field. Next year is supposed to be on the East Coast and I am sure Robin has good golf in her sights.

For the 2022 Ladies Net Club Champion honors, we had a very close battle for most of the day which ultimately came down to the final two difficult holes that produced some big number all day long. Tona Echeita was able to outlast the two holes with the least amount of damage to become the 2022 Ladies Net Club Champion with a solid 68 in Round 2 (71 – 68 | 139). Great playing Tona!

Thank you to everyone who played in the 2022 Club Championship. We have so many events with many of them being in March that it often becomes a bit overwhelming to those playing in each event around this time, but you all always have a great time and continue to make Westbrook special!
