Both Courses are now on the 90-Degree Rule + Important Course Care Reminders

We have some more great news to share!
The Lakes Course is officially off its cart-path-only restriction. Both the Lakes and Vistas Courses will now operate under the 90-degree rule.

Both courses are in phenomenal condition, and our Grounds Crew has done an outstanding job getting them ready for the season. With our busiest months approaching, we're asking everyone to help us preserve these beautiful playing conditions throughout the winter.

The 90-degree rule is simple: Stay on the cart path as much as possible and only drive onto the grass when necessary to reach your golf ball.

Here's the steps to follow:

  1. Stay on the cart path until you are directly across from your golf ball.
  2. Turn at a 90-degree angle and drive directly to your ball.
  3. After playing your shot, return directly to the cart path using the shortest practical route.
  4. Continue down the cart path until you need to access your next shot.

Please avoid driving down the fairways or traveling from one ball to another across the grass.

The goal is to minimize cart traffic on the turf while still allowing convenient access to your golf ball. This is especially important during the winter months, when grass growth slows and worn areas take longer to recover.

TWO CARTS PER GROUP – HELP US PROTECT OUR FAIRWAYS

One of the simplest ways we can reduce unnecessary wear on our courses is by limiting the number of golf carts traveling across the turf.

We ask that groups use a maximum of two golf carts per foursome unless an exception has been specifically approved by the Golf Shop for a valid reason.

First, we want to thank everyone who has already been making an effort to share carts. We've seen great cooperation, and it really does make a difference!

We also want to address a common situation involving golfers who are only playing nine holes.

We understand that some members may be finishing their round at the turn while the rest of their group continues. However, playing only nine holes does not automatically require a separate golf cart.

In most cases, it is much more practical to share a cart with another player and simply have that person drop you off at your vehicle or the clubhouse when you finish your nine holes.

Not only does this reduce unnecessary cart traffic, but it also helps us manage our cart fleet more efficiently during the busiest time of year.

Of course, we recognize that there may be circumstances where an additional cart is necessary, and our Golf Shop staff can assist with those requests.

Thank you for continuing to work with us on this. Every cart we can eliminate from unnecessary travel across the fairways helps preserve the quality of our courses.

FILL YOUR DIVOTS – AND A FEW MORE!

With the overseed now established and both courses in excellent condition, proper divot repair is especially important.

We ask everyone to make it a habit to fill your own divots and, whenever possible, a few others you encounter along the way.

Please use the sand/seed mixture provided on the golf carts to fill divots in the fairways. Fill the divot approximately level with the surrounding turf, then lightly smooth it with your foot.

IMPORTANT: PLEASE REFRESH YOUR DIVOT MIXTURE

If you still have sand or divot mixture remaining from the summer or last season, please empty it into the designated disposal bins near the cart barns and refill your bottles with the fresh sand/seed mixture currently provided.

The new mixture contains seed appropriate for our winter playing conditions, so using the correct material is important for helping divots recover.

A few extra seconds spent filling a divot can make a significant difference in the appearance and playability of our fairways.

REPAIR YOUR BALL MARKS – AND ONE OR TWO MORE!

Our greens are looking fantastic, and we'd love to keep them that way!

Please take a moment to repair your ball mark whenever your shot lands on the green. While you're there, we encourage you to repair one or two additional ball marks that may have been overlooked.

For the best results, gently push the surrounding turf toward the center of the ball mark rather than lifting it upward, which can damage the roots. Finish by lightly smoothing the repaired area with your putter.

An unrepaired ball mark can leave a blemish for weeks, while a properly repaired mark can recover much more quickly.

Imagine the difference if every golfer repaired their own ball mark plus just two more. With the number of rounds played at Westbrook, that small gesture would have an enormous positive impact on our greens!

LET'S KEEP WESTBROOK BEAUTIFUL!

We are incredibly fortunate to have two beautiful golf courses, and maintaining them at the level our members expect takes a team effort.

Our Grounds Crew works tirelessly to provide the best playing conditions possible, but with the volume of golf we experience during the winter months, the everyday actions of our members make an enormous difference.

Sharing carts, following the 90-degree rule, filling divots, and repairing ball marks may seem like small things individually, but collectively they help protect the investment we all make in our Club.

Most importantly, we want everyone to enjoy their golf while helping us maintain the conditions that make Westbrook such a special place to play.

Thank you for your continued support your appreciation of our courses, and most of all, for being members of Westbrook Golf Club!

We look forward to a fantastic winter golf season!
