Looking Ahead to November 1 - Important Course Updates & Winter Golf Information

Tomorrow, November 1, marks the official start of our winter golf season and the beginning of unlimited play for our Semi-Annual (6-Month) Members! Unfortunately, Mother Nature hasn't exactly cooperated with our plans, but we're doing our best to make the most of the situation.

Sunday, November 1 – Course Update

Due to the weather forecast and the need to protect the newly overseeded turf, the Lakes Course will remain CLOSED on Sunday, November 1. Fortunately, availability at the Vistas has allowed us to accommodate all scheduled Lakes tee times, weather permitting.

The golf shop staff has already moved all Sunday tee times originally scheduled at the Lakes to the Vistas Course, weather permitting. To accommodate the merging of the two tee sheets, some original starting times may have shifted slightly. Fortunately, the number of reservations allowed us to keep everyone very close to their originally scheduled time.

If you had a tee time scheduled for Sunday, please double-check your reservation changes.

A Little More About Our Overseed

The good news is that both courses had very successful overseeds!

The Vistas has established nicely, while the Lakes has been a little slower to germinate and mature due to the cloudy skies and persistent rain. This latest storm has also left several areas saturated or flooded, and our Grounds Crew has been working hard to address those conditions.

While the additional rainfall is certainly welcome for our water table, too much rain in a short period can create challenges, particularly for newly established turf. With more rain in the forecast for tonight and tomorrow, we want to be especially careful not to undo the hard work that has gone into preparing the courses for the season.

Our goal is to get both courses open and playing under normal conditions as soon as possible, without compromising their long-term health. We appreciate everyone's patience as we give the Lakes a little extra time to recover.

November 1 – Winter Season & Membership Privileges

November 1 also marks the beginning of our official winter golf season, including unlimited play for our Semi-Annual Members.

With the new season beginning, this is a good opportunity to clarify something that occasionally causes confusion about our different membership categories.

All Annual, Semi-Annual, and Weekend Members are members of Westbrook Golf Club year-round. Membership privileges, including access to our practice facilities, golf associations, and other club benefits, continue throughout our entire fiscal year, October 1 through September 30.

The primary difference between membership categories is when golf is included without an additional green fee and when the applicable member rate must be paid.

Additionally, all Single Memberships include one Household Member who must reside at the same address. Household Members enjoy full membership privileges year-round, including access to practice facilities, golf associations, and other club benefits. However, Household Members pay the applicable member rate each time they play golf, regardless of membership category or season.

The important takeaway is that your membership doesn't end when your unlimited play period ends. Whether you're an Annual, Semi-Annual, Weekend, or Household Member, you remain a Westbrook member with full membership privileges throughout the entire fiscal year.

November 1 – Guest Play Policy Reminder

With the start of our winter season, our 5-Play Guest Rate Limit also takes effect from November 1 through April 30.

During this period, guests may play at the guest rate up to five (5) times per winter season, provided they are accompanied by a Westbrook member. This limit applies to each guest across both courses, regardless of which member sponsors their play.

After five visits, guests are still welcome to play; however, the applicable rack rate will apply beginning with their sixth round.

Guest Names Required: Members must include their guests' names when submitting tee time requests or notify the Golf Shop of their guests' names prior to play. This allows us to accurately track guest visits and ensure the policy is applied fairly to everyone.

Excessive guest play or repeated failure to provide guest names may result in restrictions on future tee time requests and tee time placement in the draw. Additionally, intentionally providing false guest names or misrepresenting guest information to circumvent club policies is a violation of the Club's Member Code of Conduct and will be referred to the Member Standards Committee for review.

We appreciate everyone's cooperation in helping us balance guest access with tee time availability for our membership during our busiest season.

Thank You for Your Understanding

We know everyone is excited to get the winter season underway. The much needed rain has certainly made the transition more challenging than we had hoped, but the courses are looking great overall, and we're looking forward to a wonderful season of golf.

Thank you to our Grounds Crew for their continued efforts and to all of our members for your patience, flexibility, and understanding as we navigate the weather.

Thank you for being a member and we hope to see you on the course soon, preferably without a boat!
